Distributed Source Coding Using Continuous-Valued Syndromes
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper addresses the problem of coding a continuous random source correlated with another source which is only available at the decoder. The proposed approach is based on the extension of the channel coding concept of syndrome from the discrete into the continuous domain. If the correlation between the sources can be described by an additive Gaussian backward channel and capacity-achieving linear codes are employed, it is shown that the performance of the system is asymptotically close to the Wyner-Ziv bound. Even if such an additive channel is not Gaussian, the design procedure can fit the desired correlation and transmission rate. Experiments based on trellis-coded quantization show that the proposed system achieves a performance within 3-4 dB of the theoretical bound in the 0.53 bit/sample rate range for any Gaussian correlation, with a reasonable computational complexity.

Coding Using Syndromes ( DISCUS ) : Design and Construction
We address the problem of distributed source coding, i.e. compression of correlated sources that are not co-located and/or cannot communicate with each other to minimize their joint description cost. In this work we tackle the related problem of compressing a source that is correlated with another source which is however available only at the decoder. In contrast to prior information-theoretic ...
متن کاملDistributed Lossy Source Coding Using BCH-DFT Codes
Distributed source coding, separate encoding (compression) and joint decoding of statistically dependent sources, arises in an increasing number of applications like sensor networks and multiview video coding. Many of those applications are highly interactive, requiring the development of low-delay, energy-limited communication and computing schemes. Currently, this compression is performed by ...

We address the problem of distributed source coding using a practical and constructive approach 1], referred to as Distributed source coding using syndromes (DISCUS), with applications to sensor networks. We propose low complexity encoding and decoding methods based on linear codes, to achieve all points in the achievable rate region of Slepian-Wolf 2] problem. The extension of these concepts t...

We employ generalized coset codes ...
متن کاملWyner-Ziv Coding in the Real Field Based on BCH-DFT Codes
We show how real-number codes can be used to compress correlated sources and establish a new framework for distributed lossy source coding, in which we quantize compressed sources instead of compressing quantized sources. This change in the order of binning and quantization blocks makes it possible to model correlation between continuous-valued sources more realistically and compensate for the ...
